Cold Laser Therapy in Miranda

Cold Laser on ElbowAt our practice, Dr. Julie Middleton (Chiropractor) uses a Class IV laser. Practitioners have to have achieved considerable educationin the medical field before they can purchase a Class IV laser. You can be confident knowing that Dr Julie (Chiropractor) has the requisite extensive education to safely and effectively use the laser in her practice.

How It Works

During a cold laser therapy session, various wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted region of the body. The body’s tissue takes in the light. The red and near-infrared light produces a reaction. The cells that are damaged have a physiological response that promotes regeneration.

Why This Laser Is Superior to Older Varieties

The types of lasers that were used in the past utilised continuous laser beams that created significant heat. According to our chiropractor, the problem was judging the exposure as areas of inflammation, which are already hot, don’t take kindly to being heated more.

The Class IV laser is a pulse laser, which is considered to be much safer than older types. With cold laser therapy, tissues will never get overheated so this type of laser works exceptionally well to address any type of inflammation.

Conditions That Cold Laser May Help

The Class IV laser can address many different conditions depending on the wavelength of light that is used. Here are some ailments that we have treated in the practice:

  • Achilles tendon problems
  • Bursitis

Does it hurt to have cold laser therapy?

No, not at all! This type of modality is painless and non-invasive. Some people are able to avoid surgery thanks to cold laser therapy.

Can I come in just for cold laser therapy?

Yes, but first, an evaluation will be given. Our chiropractor will determine if you can benefit from cold laser therapy alone or in conjunction with another therapy.

How many sessions will I need?

Typically you will have a cluster of treatments to maximise the benefit. These sessions will be reasonably close together over a number of weeks to get the full effect.

Is cold laser therapy more beneficial than acupuncture?

Both therapies have advantages. Cold laser therapy can do things that acupuncture can’t do and vice versa. Areas such as the knee, jaw and lower back generally respond quicker to acupuncture. At some point, Dr Julie (Chiropractor) can then switch to cold laser therapy. Once the acupuncture has helped the initial phase (the acute stage), then she can switch to using cold laser therapy, which is optimal for the healing phase.

Does insurance cover cold laser therapy?

Yes, cold laser therapy is typically billed as an extended consultation.
